Hi tumblr friends! I need help with a class assignment. If you could answer the following question and then some demographic info, that would be fantastic! You can answer as many or as few questions as you want, and answer everything as you self-identify. I won’t identify you by name and will make observations based on the answers in a short essay. You can message me the answers in a question. I won’t post them on tumblr or anything, or identify you in any way.
So the question I need you to answer is: “What comes to mind for you when I say the word autism?” Then tell me your age, place of birth, self-identified race, self-identified gender, whether you identify as a person with a disability, and whether you know someone personally (close friend, family member) who identifies as having a disability.
In case you’re a graduate of one of the many colleges in North Carolina and were feeling embarrassed. (via Buzzfeed)
Although I understand what it’s trying to say and am totally embarrassed and angry that this amendment passed in NC, I resent this graph. Just because you didn’t attend college doesn’t mean you’re stupid and/or unintelligent and/or homophobic. Just like, just because you’re from NC (or the south) doesn’t mean you’re stupid or racist or insert-other-stereotype-here. Mass generalizations like this kill me. So, person who created this graphic, let’s try to steer clear of these stereotypes, which only serve to further promote hatred. Love, a North Carolinian whose parents do not have a bachelor’s degree
I have moments where I feel quite isolated by the uniqueness of my life experience. I’ll never be able to explain to anyone that I meet new, what my life has been like or what it’s been all like, really. You kind of have to be in it, so they are the only two other people in the world who I don’t have to explain myself and they’d just — they’d just know. They’ve done everything with me and that bond that we have — I think that even more than we think it is to us now, I feel like when this is over, our friendship will have a new importance for the three of us because I think that when it’s over, we’ll need each other more than we do even now.
Sophomore at Vassar College who isn't quite sure what I want to be when I grow up.
I post anything and everything on this blog, so expect to be confused and dizzied by the lack of a theme. If I like it or think it, I post it. And I think and like a lot of stuff... If you do too, then maybe, just maybe, you'll find this a nice place to visit from time to time. :)
